Speaker bio

You may have heard about the new California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) going into effect in 2020. This new law has far reaching effects outside of the state of California, similar to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It is critical for paralegals to understand what this law is and how it may impact their organizations.

We will discuss the eight new privacy rights given to California consumers/residents and eight corresponding and three independent obligations imposed on businesses processing California consumers’ PI by the CCPA. We will focus part of our time on what the CCPA requires of businesses that contract with vendors who will handle California consumer/resident personal information.

Caitlyn Tobey is an experienced paralegal and compliance professional. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
